The International Foundation for Rural Healthcare, Inc. helps improve the lives of people in sub-Saharan Africa by addressing the need for medical supplies in the rural communities. In particular we are engaged in helping the Ajuwon Health Centre in Lagos, Nigeria. Medical material shortages have made good medical practice very difficult in an area where there are many complex and serious healthcare needs. Malaria and respiratory infections are among the most common illnesses people face in Nigeria. Africa’s health infrastructure is often overwhelmed by the complicated cases of malaria, respiratory infections, diarrhea, malnutrition and trauma, insufficient vaccinations, inadequate pre and antenatal services and a lack of hygenic surroundings in the health care setting. The number of people seeking access to healthcare is overwhelming, meeting people’s needs in densely populated areas presents what often seems an insurmountable challenge, but it is also an opportunity to make a difference for people truly in need.
The mission of International Foundation for Rural Healthcare, Inc. is to improve the healthcare services to the rural communities by collecting medical supplies and equipment in the United States and placing them in school clinics and rural health centers in Nigeria and other African sub-regions. Basic life saving medical supplies are in very short supply in most rural communities in Africa. At the same time there is a tremendous excess of medical equipment in the United States that are often destined for landfills and incinerators that, for various regulatory reasons, hospitals and medical companies must discard. Donations are in need for unused, unexpired medical surplus supplies as well as various used medical equipment. Medical manufacturers and distributors could also help by donating cosmetically-damaged packaging, production overages, usable returned products and other reasons.
